All in Gold
I’m having a muck around with one of two of our investments this week. A “re-balance” is the fancy terminology, but I’m taking the opportunity to make sure that we are sticking to our investment plan because I have a tendency to wander off track. Some people are super organised and set a date to do this once a year, I don’t, I’ve just become aware that ‘it’s time’.
I’ve been getting a few emails and comments along the lines of “can you please consider a post about your overall investment portfolio.” My investing strategy is pretty simple and straightforward and I can't help but think that those who work day in day out in the finance space will scoff and laugh at my lack of analysis and strategy. But don’t scoff too hard, because it appears to be working just fine, thank you. Here is how I allocate the money that comes into my life.
I spend a lot of time at my computer and my “household spreadsheet” is often open and it was while I was looking at this that I thought perhaps it was timely that I have a bit of a financial spring clean.
The thing I have learnt about gold in the last year and a half, that I would not have learned if I had not dipped my toes in the water and actually bought some is that gold is EXTREMELY volatile. Investing in gold is like share trading on 10X speed; everything moves so FAST.
Now, if you are going to become an investor you kind of need to know what on earth they are talking about, at least a little bit.
It has taken me quite some time to learn about diversification and the impact it can have on my investing. But it turns out that I was actually diversifying even when I still had debt.
